Operations & Administration Manager

Carla oversees all administrative and operational aspects of The A Academy. From scheduling and player registration to internal communications and logistics, she ensures everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, allowing our coaches and players to focus fully on the game.

With a Master’s degree in Early Years Education, Carla brings not only exceptional organisational skills but also a deep understanding of child development, which adds enormous value to how we structure and support our younger age groups.

Her incredible reliability, care, and attention to detail make her essential to the academy’s success. But what truly sets Carla apart is her love for the academy and every single player. Her dedication goes far beyond her role; she lives and breathes The A Academy, and it shows in everything she does.

 I have earned the prestigious UEFA Master certification in Professional Football Coaching, a program that combines advanced tactical knowledge, leadership skills, and cutting-edge training methodologies to develop world-class coaches capable of guiding players at the highest levels.

 As an analyst for Girona FC, I applied data-driven insights and video analysis to support team strategy and player performance, helping the coaching staff make informed decisions during matches and training sessions.
Ex-Director of International Academies for FC Barcelona
 I served as the Director of International Academies for FC Barcelona, overseeing the development and operations of their football academies in over 10 countries. This role involved implementing the club’s world-renowned training methodology, managing coaching staff, and ensuring consistent player development across diverse cultures and environments.

With over 20 years of experience in grassroots football, I bring a deep understanding of how to support players from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they feel welcome, valued, and safe within our community. My approach is centered on creating an inclusive environment where every player can thrive both on and off the pitch.

At The A Academy, I also have the privilege of mentoring younger coaches, guiding them as they develop their skills and grow in their coaching careers—something I truly enjoy and find rewarding.

Additionally, I lead our goalkeeping training, a role that aligns perfectly with my passion. I am dedicated to helping goalkeepers develop their technical abilities, tactical awareness, and confidence, empowering them to excel in their unique position.

Sam Hopkins

Competitive Phase Coordinator


Head Coordinator of the Competitive Area at The A Academy, Sam is a UEFA B Licence holder with a deep passion for player development and a proven track record of success. Having progressed through the academy’s coaching ranks, he now leads the U13 team and oversees all competitive phase teams within the club.

Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Coaching at UCFB Wembley University, Sam is committed to continuously enhancing his knowledge and applying the latest coaching concepts to help players reach their full potential.

His dedication to nurturing talent has helped numerous players progress into professional academies, including Aston Villa and Cardiff City. Known for his structured approach, keen eye for detail, and strong leadership, Sam plays a vital role in shaping the academy’s next generation of elite players both on and off the field.

Mickel Suazo

Development Phase Coordinator

Mickel has been an integral part of The A Academy for the past three years, where he has grown into a strong leader and discovered his passion for player development and growth.

He is currently working towards his UEFA C Licence, further strengthening his coaching knowledge and commitment to the game.

Mickel’s energy, professionalism, and dedication to high standards make him the ideal figure to support our Development coaches. He plays a key role in ensuring our methodology is consistently applied, helping every coach and player thrive within the academy environment.

Luis Gjana

Foundation Phase Coordinator

Luis Gjana has been a valuable member of The A Academy for the past three years, steadily growing as a coach and showing unwavering dedication to player development.

Currently working toward his UEFA C Licence, Luis continues to elevate his coaching knowledge and align with the academy’s evolving standards.

He also serves as the Foundation Phase Coordinator, leading all sessions for our youngest players. This stage is the crucial first step for most into the academy, and Luis plays a pivotal role in setting the tone for their football journey. His ability to create a welcoming, structured, and engaging environment ensures that each player builds a strong foundation—not just in football, but in confidence, discipline, and love for the game.

Luis’s consistency, energy, and care make him a standout leader in this key phase of our academy.

Coaching is my passion. I also manage my senior team, Champs of East United, which gives me a comprehensive perspective of football in London—from grassroots to senior levels. This experience enriches my coaching approach, allowing me to connect with players at every stage of their football journey.

My coaching philosophy is rooted in hard work and repetition. I firmly believe that consistent practice is one of the key factors in a player’s success and progression in football.

Football means everything to me. It has taken me around the world, introduced me to incredible people, and given me lifelong friendships. Through coaching, I’m excited to share that passion and guide young players on their journey.
